You can learn how to submit an online SASSA application for various social grants, such as the care dependency grant, child support grant, disability grant, foster child grant, grant-in-aid, older persons grant, social relief of distress, war veterans grant, and special R350 grant. Based on your eligibility, you can request any of these grants.  

SASSA Online Application: Apply for Social Grants

To apply for SASSA social grants, you can complete the application process online. It is divided into sections, beginning with registration and followed by the application submission process. During this process, you can select the type of grant you need and fill out the application form online.  

Registration of SASSA Account Online

  1. Visit the SASSA services web portal.
  2. Click on the “Register A New Account” button to access the SASSA services.
  3. Check “I Agree” and click Apply button for approving South Africa’s Registration Consent.
  4. Fill in the “Client Registration” e-form with the required personal information.
    • Citizenship (South African citizen/permanent resident/refugee)
    • Identity Number (Your ID number would be your Login Username)
    • ID document type (ID document/temporary ID)
    • Confirm your ID number
    • Choose User Title (Mr/Mrs/Miss)
    • Provide your Surname
    • Provide your Full name
    • Provide your active Email address
    • Choose a password (must meet certain criteria; strong)
    • Confirm your chosen password
    • Provide cellphone number (10-digit South African number)
  5. After putting all the information, click on the “Register Me” button.

Your account has been successfully created. You will receive a confirmation message shortly, containing either an OTP or a link to your cell phone number to finalize your registration. Once your account is activated, you can proceed to apply for social grants.  

Applying for SASSA Social Grants

  1. Log in to your SASSA account using your username and password.
  2. Click on the “Social Grant Options” and select the type of grant you wish to apply for.
  3. Complete the grant application form, providing all the necessary information.
  4. Print the SASSA-generated affidavit and have it certified by a commissioner of oaths.
  5. Sign the Bank Payment Form and submit it along with your affidavit.
  6. Upload the required certified supporting documents in PDF format:
  7. For Child Support Grant applicants:
    • Copy of the applicant’s ID document
    • Copy of the spouse’s ID document (if applicable)
    • Proof of marital status: marriage certificate (if applicable)
    • Proof of banking details: letter from the bank with the applicant’s details
    • Proof of income (if applicable)
    • SASSA-generated affidavit
  8. For Foster Child Grant applicants:
    • Copy of the applicant’s ID document
    • Copy of the spouse’s ID document (if applicable)
    • Proof of marital status: marriage certificate (if applicable)
    • Proof of banking details: letter from the bank with the applicant’s details
    • Proof of income (if applicable)
    • SASSA-generated affidavit
  9. For Older Persons Grant applicants:
    • Copy of the applicant’s ID document
    • Copy of the spouse’s ID document (if applicable)
    • Proof of marital status: marriage certificate (if applicable)
    • Proof of banking details: letter from the bank with the applicant’s details
    • Proof of income (if applicable)
    • SASSA-generated affidavit
  10. Once you have provided the required supporting documents, your social gran application will be completed.
  11. Click on the “Submit” button to successfully apply for the SASSA grant application.
  12. Now you can perform SASSA status check online of your grant application.
Important Notices:
  • After the application form has been completed in full, you will receive a dated stamped receipt, with the name of the SASSA official who assisted in your application.
  • You will need to keep your receipt as proof of application and remember the application process is free.

How Long Does It Take to Process Your SASSA Online Application Grant?

It is important to note that the processing time for online grant applications with SASSA can take up to 3 months. Once your application is approved, you will receive payment from the date of your application. For the exact payday of your funds, it is recommended to check the latest SASSA Payment Dates.  

How Will You Be Notified of a Successful Grant Application?

If your grant application is denied, you will be notified in writing by SASSA. If you disagree with the decision, you can appeal within 90 days of being informed of the denial. To submit your appeal, send it to the Minister of Social Development at the national office of the Department of Social Development.
