SASSA Child Support Grant

For single applicants or caregivers, the maximum monthly income to qualify for the SASSA Child Support Grant is R4,000.

For married couples, the combined income of both spouses should not exceed R8,000 per month to be eligible.

Permanent Child Support Grant recipients should not have more than the maximum annual income of R60,000, this includes bank balance and assets.

SASSA Foster Child Grant

Foster Child Grant recipients are not required to undergo assessments for income or assets. This grant is available to caregivers who have been appointed by a South African Court to care for foster children.  

To apply, all you need are your court order documents and your ID. This grant offers monthly financial assistance to help you support the foster children in your care.

Care Dependency Grant

Parents can apply for the Care Dependency Grant for children over 18 if their monthly income is less than R20,800.

To be considered a primary caregiver for this grant, the combined income of both parents should not exceed R41,600 per month.

Your income is assessed monthly, and if it exceeds this limit, your grant application will be declined.

Old Age Grant

For single recipients of the Old Age Grant, the maximum annual income allowed is R96,840.

If you are a couple, there’s a combined income test for eligibility. Your monthly income should not exceed R16,140, and your annual income should stay below R193,680.

SASSA Disability Grant

Applicants for the SASSA Disability Grant with a disability should not earn more than R16,140 per month.

For married applicants, the combined assets should not exceed an annual income of R193,680.

Note that the income threshold for both SASSA Older Person and Disability Grants is the same.

War Veterans Grant

For single applicants for the War Veterans Grant, the maximum annual income allowed is R86,280.

The maximum annual income threshold for married applicants is R172,560. In order to continue qualifying for the SASSA War Veterans Grant, your combined income should not surpass this amount.
