SASSA Referred Status

It’s important to understand the meaning of the Referred status on your SASSA application. This status can apply to anyone who has applied for a SASSA social grant, including Disability, Care Dependency, Children’s Grant, Old Age Grant, or the Social Relief of Distress R350.  

SASSA Referred Status

If your SASSA Status is marked as Referred, it indicates that your application has encountered a specific status. It’s important to understand what this means, but there’s no need to worry as your application status is not final. SASSA Referred Status

When your SASSA application shows a Referred Status, it means that it is currently undergoing further review by SASSA National Authorities. This is to ensure the accuracy and eligibility of your application before a final decision is made and approved.  

Why SASSA Referred Your Application

SASSA carefully reviews each application for a period of 90 days, thoroughly examining your financial information to determine eligibility for the grant. If additional information is needed and further investigation is required, your SASSA status will be labeled as “referred.”

ID Document Matches Other Databases

If your ID number and name are found in databases like NSFAS, SARS, UIF, or other government institutions in South Africa, your SASSA status will be listed as referred.  

Documentation Issues

If any documents are missing or incorrect in your grant application, you may need to provide essential paperwork. You will receive a notification to update your application with the correct information in order to complete your documentation.

Missing Email or Phone Number

You will need to update your SASSA application personal information with the correct contact details if your application is missing your SASSA-referred email address or phone number.

Suspected Fraud Activity

If you have reported a lost SASSA card or registered cell phone number, or unauthorized access to your grant, SASSA will investigate any potential fraudulent activity by conducting further investigations to verify the information provided until the suspicion is cleared.

Duplicate Applications

When multiple applications are submitted for the same grant or for multiple grants, SASSA will categorize the status as referred. Subsequently, your grant will be rejected, and you will receive notification when your status changes from referred to ensure fairness within the SASSA system.
