Dr. Bongani Diako, Head of Communications at Postbank, has officially announced that there is no need to switch Postbank accounts as expired SASSA Gold Cards will continue to work until 2024. This information has also been confirmed by the Gauteng, South Africa Post Office, and Social Development Departments.

Beneficiaries can rest assured that their SASSA Gold Cards will remain fully functional throughout the year, and grant payments will proceed as scheduled. This news eliminates the need to change banks solely due to expired cards.  

Postbank has confirmed that it is dedicated to ensuring the prompt processing of monthly SASSA grant payments for all SASSA Gold Card users. This demonstrates their commitment to the well-being of beneficiaries. Beneficiaries can conveniently access their SASSA grants through SASSA Gold Cards at a variety of retailers, such as Boxer, Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Usave, Checkers, and Spar. In addition, SASSA Gold Card transactions can be made at any bank ATM nationwide.  

Post Office Services for Lost or Stolen SASSA Gold Cards Replacements

From January to March 2024, scheduled maintenance for cash services will take place at Post Office branches. This will involve a phased-out transition for most branches, as part of a larger strategy to improve customer service standards. If you experience any issues with lost or stolen SASSA Gold Cards during February payment dates, you can still go to any Post Office branch nationwide to get a replacement.

If someone tells you that your SASSA Gold Card needs to be replaced and that you need to switch banks, it’s a scam. You should report this to the Postbank helpline at 0800 53 54 55. Postbank has confirmed that expired SASSA cards will still be valid until 2024, and only Postbank can replace your SASSA Gold Card at their official branches.
