SASSA Card Declined

If you are having trouble getting your SRD R350 grant because your SASSA Card was declined at the ATM, we can assist you. You may receive a notification stating that your card is invalid or that the transaction was declined due to insufficient funds. This issue often stems from PostBank, and can be caused by IT issues or faults within the bank system, resulting in declined withdrawals at ATMs.

To address the issue of a declined SASSA card, please follow these steps.

  1. First, ensure that your SASSA card is in good condition, not damaged or expired.
  2. Contact the South African Postbank Customer Care Centre at 0800 53 54 55 to explain your situation.
  3. Mention that you encountered your SASSA Card Declined with an error or encountered a glitch during ATM withdrawal.
  4. Provide any additional information that can be your ID number or Application ID.
  5. Follow their guidance to resolve the issue. You will suggest to Change SASSA Payment Method to receive your grant money without using an ATM.
  6. If there’s a waiting period due to a system failure, you can return to the ATM after the suggested time and use your SASSA Card to withdraw your approved funds.

If your SASSA card is lost, it’s important to report it to the authorities as soon as possible so they can block it and prevent unauthorized access or misuse.  

Reasons for SASSA Card Declined

  1. Limited Funds: SASSA funds are occasionally limited, and it may take up to two days to receive your payments.
  2. Insufficient Amount in Your Account: Your SASSA account does not have enough money for the withdrawal.
  3. Wrong PIN: Verify if you are using the correct Personal Identification Number (PIN) for your SASSA card.
  4. PostBank System Problem: During system migrations, certain glitches may arise within the PostBank system that result in card declines, even if your grant is approved.
  5. Closed or Pending Bank Transactions: If your non-PostBank bank account is closed or has pending transactions, your card may be declined.
  6. Card Blocked for Fraud: If your card is used for fraudulent activities or if SASSA suspects suspicious activity, it will be blocked pending further investigation.
  7. Exceeded Income Limit: Going beyond the income limit established by the Means Test (R624) can lead to your card being declined.
  8. Grant Discontinued or Canceled: If SASSA discontinues your grant, your card will no longer function for withdrawals.
